Hi Everyone! Our guest today is Amanda from Natural Living Mama. You all know how much I love homemade products. I can not wait to make some of this salve up for Ryo and I! Thanks for being here today Amanda! ~Robyn
The other day I stepped on a tack strip and put three nice deep puncture wounds right into my foot. In times like these I am very grateful to have the know-how to make my own antibacterial salve that is safe, natural and effective in treating wounds, especially having a two year old daughter who is just as accident prone as her mother.
Here is an easy recipe for homemade antibacterial salve that you can make and have on hand to use whenever you might have a scrape, scratch, ding or dent. I like to have a container in each bathroom, and carry a smaller container in my purse and in our camping packs as a “just in case”.
½ C Virgin Coconut Oil (preferably organic)
¼ C Avocado Oil
¼ C Jojoba Oil
½ oz Beeswax
30 drops Melaleuca Essential Oil
30 drops Lavender Essential Oil
20 drops Eucalyptus Essential Oil
20 drops Lemon Essential Oil
Use the double boiler method to melt the coconut, avocado and jojoba oils and the beeswax together. (see how I do my double boiler method here) Once the oils are completely melted and combined, remove from heat and add the essential oils. Pour into containers and let cool.
You are done! Easy as that.
I chose coconut, avocado, and jojoba oils for their beneficial healing properties and because they are regularly used in applications to renew and regenerate skin tissue. If you are in a bind then you can just use olive oil and increase your beeswax to 1oz. The essential oils have all been traditionally used as anti-bacterial oils*, some are cleansing*, and some are rejuvenating and promote healing*. Be sure you are using the highest quality essential oils you can find. Read more about essential oil safety here.
You won’t regret having this wonderful antibacterial salve on hand for the bumps and bruises that inevitably happen along the way, and you can feel secure in the fact that you are not exposing your family to petroleum and other chemicals while helping to heal their wounds.
Do you have any great natural first aid tips or recipes that you love?
