The Everything Hummus Recipe

The Everything Hummus

Are you a hummus lover? How about an everything bagel lover? You are?! Great, because this hummus recipe has all the delicious flavors of an everything bagel blended with chickpeas and olive oil for the perfect snack dip. This was my first time making hummus at home. I usually only eat it when we go out to my favorite greek restaurant in town, or on a rare occasion I will pick up a container of the pre-made stuff at our local grocery store. I seriously had know idea it was so easy to make! This girl will not be buying it at the store any longer. Now, I can whip up my own in just a couple of minutes. And we all know that homemade not only taste better than store bought, but it is also good to know what all of the ingredients are that are going into making it. (Yes, I know, I repeat that over and over!)
I did a little research to see how long hummus has been around. I only recently heard of it in the last several years, but it has actually been around since the crusaders time. There are different opinions about where it originated, and because it has been around so long, no one really knows for sure. I just know that it taste good, and that is good enough for me!

Turn on your food processor and drop garlic cloves into the bowl. Once chopped, add poppy seeds, dried onion, sesame seeds and caraway seeds to bowl. Pulse 1-2 times to chop seeds.
Add chickpeas, salt, tahini, water, and lemon juice to the bowl and pulse until mixed and chickpeas are coarsely pureed. Drizzle olive oil and additional sesame seeds, dried onion, poppy seed, salt and caraway seeds on top before serving.
Everything Hummus Goodness
What is your favorite thing to eat with hummus? I love to eat mine with toasted pita triangles, or veggies that have a little vinegary flavor to them. Yum!
I know for a lot of people this week is back to school. This Everything Hummus would make a great after school snack for the kids.  It makes me wish mine were still at home!
