Homemade Oatmeal and Honey Face Mask

Homemade Oatmeal and Honey Face Mask

On Monday, I shared how to make your own oatmeal face wash, and as promised, today I am sharing the recipe for the face mask that I have been using. It is so nice to know exactly what is in the different products that I use on my skin. Sure, you can buy lots of different face mask at the store, ranging from all different price ranges. But how many of the ingredients can you pronounce? If you are like me, if I can’t pronounce it, I probably don’t know what it even is! I am sorry if I am repeating myself, but this is something that is really important to me. So many of us just buy stuff from the store without even thinking about what we are really buying.

Why do we automatically trust these companies who make all of these products? Do they really have our best interest at heart or are they just in it for the money? I’d love to hear your thoughts about this! Are you a label reader? Yes, No? Why do you or don’t you?

How do you feel about some of the ingredients that are used in your beauty products? Do you read the labels or do you just look at the front packaging?

What makes you buy one beauty product over another one? The price? Convenience store versus Department store?

Do you make your own beauty products? If yes, what made you decide to make the choice to do that?

I still have a looong way to go in changing my lifestyle. My biggest challenge is changing my eating habits! But that is a whole different post of its own! I didn’t mean for this post to be 20 questions! I am just really interested to hear from all of you!

Ok, lets talk about my Homemade Oatmeal and Honey Face Mask! This mask only has three ingredients. It is important to use organic ingredients whenever you can. That way you don’t have to be concerned about any bad chemicals being put on your skin.

Oatmeal is a good  moisturizer.

Local Raw Honey is good for getting rid of bacteria.

Milk has been used on the skin for centuries!

Here is how to make the mask:
1/2 tablespoon Local Raw Honey
1 1/2 tablespoons Organic Oatmeal, ground ( I always grind my oatmeal in my coffee grinder, but you can also use a food processor.
1/2 tablespoon Organic Milk

Place honey in a microwaveable bowl and heat on high for about 10 seconds. Add the oatmeal and milk to the warmed honey and stir well. Let the mask sit for a minute or two. This will help it thicken up. Apply to clean face. I usually put a thin layer on my face and then I go back over it with another layer of the mixture. Leave mask on face for 30 minutes and then wash off. It takes a little bit of effort to wash it off. I just use a warm washcloth and wipe it off in sections. Apply your favorite moisturizer once the mask is washed off. I use coconut oil for my moisturizer.

(This recipe makes enough for one mask.)

Your posts are making me hungry! I haven’t tried honey on the skin, but I got my hair cut recently and the hair dresser said to mix honey with mayo for dry scalp. Have you tried anything like that? Was wondering if anyone else heard of it before I spend a day trying to get honey out of my hair.

I was wondering if I could use dried milk? I always have milk in my fridge but I would like to use whole milk and that I do NOT have since I drink skim.
