Homemade Oatmeal Packets

Homemade Oatmeal Packets

Making your own oatmeal packets is simple, and saves a significant amount of money, especially when you buy it on sale!  Not only does it cut your food costs, but you can customize your flavors in ways that Mr. Quaker never dreamed of. Create a big batch of base mix and add a special ingredient or two when you make your bowl in the morning for a delicious treat. Or you can add nuts, chocolate chips, cocoa powder, or dried fruit to individual snack ziploc packets or store in a large canister with a ½ cup measuring cup inside for quick serving.

5 cups Quick Oats
¾  cup Brown Sugar
½  cup Powdered Milk or Powdered Buttermilk
2 teaspoon Cinnamon

Place 2 cups of  oatmeal in a blender or small chopper, blend oatmeal until it is powdery.
Combine all ingredients, including powdered oatmeal  in a large bowl, stirring well.
Be sure to break up any brown sugar clumps so it is evenly combined.

To make your oatmeal combine ½ cup oatmeal mix with ¾ cup of water, and microwave for 1 1/2-2 minutes.
Stir in any add-ins you desire- raisins, craisins, walnuts, maple syrup, extracts,etc..

And Enjoy!

That’s such a great idea and would be so good for travelling or bringing to the cottage. Where do you find powdered buttermilk? I’ve never heard of that before

I need to try this! My husband is always getting those instant packets and then making two of them at a time. If I could replicate his favorite flavor it would save us a lot of money!

I am thinking this would save us a lot of time in the mornings and we could make it the way we like it. Thank you for sharing at Share It One More Time. Cathy

Pinned this so I will remember to do later in the fall and winter. It is too hot here now for me to eat hot oatmeal in the morning – cold cereal or a nice cold smoothie is better right now. I like the idea of having this ready to go and oatmeal is so good for you.
