Kitchen Basics 101: How to Melt Chocolate

Kitchen Basics 101: How to Melt Chocolate

Over the years I have melted chocolate for many different recipes.  I have also used many different methods of melting chocolate.  Today for Kitchen Basics 101,  I am going to share with you my favorite
method for melting chocolate using Almond Bark.
Almond Bark is wonderful.  You can purchase it at any local Walmart for under $5.00 a block.
It melts beautifully.  And I always use my microwave.
I always put down a piece of wax paper to lay my spoons on.  This helps with cleanup.
Begin by setting your microwave setting to low and start out in 30 second intervals.
In just a few minutes you have perfectly melted chocolate.
Now, begin dipping.  ALWAYS place your dipped items on a piece of wax paper to dry.
And in no time at all, you’ll have delicious chocolate covered strawberries.
Chocolate covered pretzels.
Or even chocolate covered cookies.
Here is the recipe for the sugar cookies above.
Why not make them this week using a heart shaped
cookie cutter for Valentine’s Day?!
Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!

We used to do this so much as kids that I bought a bunch of chocolate for V-Day. I’ve got molds too, but I didn’t think of chocolate cookie hearts. I love that idea.

Another tip: we add food coloring to the white chocolate to get tons of other colors. #SITSBlogging

Great post! I must tell a funny on my hubby, who is a chef. He offered to help my sister making some St Paddy’s day treats. She was making chocolate covered rum balls or something. He thought he would be helpful and make them green by using liquid food coloring. He couldn’t figure out why it didn’t work. I explained that being a chef does not qualify him to know about confectionery. LOL!

I love dipping things in chocolate but have never used almond bark. I’ll have to take a look for some at our local Walmart soon. Thanks for sharing on the weekend re-Treat link party.
