Kitchen Basics 101: How to Slice Cookie Bars and Brownies Neatly

This week’s Kitchen Basics 101 post is about How to Slice Cookie Bars and Brownies Neatly. This little trick is something I just recently started doing. 
Have you ever gone to slice a pan of brownies or cookie bars and 
instead of nice neat pieces you end up with a mess?  This used to happen to me all the time until I started baking with parchment paper.  
Line your baking dish with parchment paper, making sure you leave an overhang. 
Spread the dough in the pan on top of the parchment paper.  Bake according to the recipe directions.
After the bar cookies have cooled, using the parchment paper, lift them out of the baking dish and place on a cutting board.  The bar cookies will slide right off of the parchment paper.  No sticking whatsoever.  
Now you can cut into neat, even pieces.
Works great on BROWNIES too!

    Yep, parchment is the best! Love that stuff. My trick for cutting brownies is to use a plastic (disposable) knife. For some reason the brownies don’t stick to it and they come out in pretty perfect squares every time!

    Great tip, thanks. I will also try to tip from the comment above about a plastic knife. I always get in a mess when crumbs and bits stick to the knife and in my hurry I don’t notice and the bits get everywhere.
