Making Granola at Home with Your Kids    
Granola is a delicious and nutritious treat that is easy to take with you and enjoy anywhere, any time. Granola is loaded with nutrients and fiber for a healthy snack, and it also has the complex carbohydrates and healthy fats that you need for long-lasting energy.
You don’t have to buy expensive blends from health-food stores to enjoy granola. You can make your own at home, saving you money and allowing you to customize it to suit your tastes. It’s even easy enough to make with kids! Here are a few ideas for making granola at home with your kids:
Make the Basic Recipe
You can find many different recipes for making your own granola. A basic recipe includes:
  • 1 bag whole rolled oats (You can choose gluten-free varieties if you like.)
  • 1 cup sweetener (Honey, agave, maple syrup, and molasses are all good choices, and you can use one or several to make up the one cup.)
  • 1/4 cup oil (Olive oil is recommended, but you can experiment with other types of oil.)

Mix the sweetener and oil thoroughly. You may have to warm the sweetener to make it easier to spread. Then add your oil and sweetener mixture to the oats and mix it thoroughly. 

Preheat your oven to 325 degrees, then lay your granola out on a lined cookie sheet. Spread it think to bake for about 25 minutes.
There are many, many more ways to customize your granola to suit your own tastes. Simply experimenting with different sweeteners and oils can make a big difference to the flavor of your granola.
You may also consider adding different spices or ingredients to your granola. You can try adding:
  • Nuts 
  • Nut butter (especially peanut butter)
  • Dried fruits
  • Cinnamon
  • Vanilla
  • Nutmeg
  • Cayenne
  • Chocolate or carob chips or chunks
  • Small candies
  • Marshmallows  
Add-ins help you to create dozens of variety of granola so you always have a fun and interesting flavor. Experiment to see what you and your kids like best. 
Working with Kids
Working with kids in the kitchen can often be a challenge, so you may need to take some precautions. Depending on the age or developmental level of your children, you may need to take caution around the stove. It may be better to focus on allowing your children to mix up the granola or the add-ins and then let them set a timer while you put the pan of granola into the oven (or take it out).
Store your granola in air-tight containers when it’s done, and you will have a delicious and healthy snack that your kids love for weeks!
